The Path So Far
From International Travel to Grounding & Vision
A couple of decades ago I was doing a lot of international travel as an Export Marketing Consultant, after starting my career as a Project Engineer and inventing a device that I sold overseas.
I worked with some of Australia's major companies, including Boral, Rheem and James Hardie, as well as many smaller businesses, across industries ranging from aerospace and yachting to food and fabrication.
I also consulted to government in export development and worked with Aboriginal businesses and Land Councils.
It was a great life in many ways.
I travelled the world, experienced different cultures, met fascinating people and did valuable work helping Australian, French and Argentinian companies develop international markets.
But I began to recognise something about myself.
A Life in Motion
“My energy was scattered.”
I’d be away overseas for several weeks, often travelling across different countries, dealing with different companies, different people and different opportunities.
Then I’d come home, write reports, complete the work and start generating the next consulting project.
My attention was constantly going in different directions.
There were financial peaks and troughs. Relationships were difficult to maintain. And sometimes I would arrive home without really feeling that I had arrived.
I wasn’t properly centred or grounded.

A Pause
That became an important realisation for me:
When our attention and energy are spread across too many areas at the same time, without being properly grounded, we can lose connection with our own centre.
The work was exciting and rewarding in many ways, but it wasn’t giving me the deeper satisfaction I was looking for—or the financial rewards.
The Shift
A Turning Point
Then, when I was around 40, a good friend gifted me a workshop with Robert Kiyosaki, Blair Singer, Brendan Nichols and DC Córdova.
That experience changed my life.
I subsequently joined their teams, working with them selling and delivering their programs in Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Two things really stood out for me.
Systems
The first was systems.
Systems—wow!
Suddenly I could see how much easier things could be when everything didn’t depend upon continually creating the next opportunity yourself.
Vision
The second was vision.
That was powerful.
As part of that experience, I created an impelling and inspiring vision for how I wanted my life to be.
A New Direction
Creating My Own Future
Instead of having my attention scattered across whatever opportunity was immediately in front of me, I had begun to create a picture of my own future—something that could give my energy direction.
Years later, I looked at my life and realised:
I was living that vision.
The Signature Idea
Grounding & Vision
That became a foundational understanding for me.
We need to be grounded and centred enough to know who we are and what really matters to us, and then have a clear vision that focuses our energy towards the life we actually want to create.
I came to understand that grounding and vision are not separate.
Grounding
Grounding connects us with who we are.
Vision
Vision gives our energy direction.
The relationship between grounding and vision is key to our creation.
